I had a telephone message this morning from

the Chinese Customs Office, 26 Old Queen Street,S.W.1

(Tel.No.Victoria 4743) to the effect that they had

written a letter to the Under Secretary of State,

Colonial Office, on the 10th of July, enclosing a copy of a paper called "Hong kong and the Chinese

Customs"; that they had received no acknowledgment

of this letter; and that they would like now to know

whether we received it.

Perhaps Far Eastern Department would look

into this and reply direct to the Chinese Customs

Office.
